什麼是樸門?
簡單來說，它是一個設計系統，承如創始者 Bill Mollison 所言：
“Permaculture design is a system of assembling conceptual, material, and strategic components in a pattern which functions to benefit life in all it’s forms.”
樸門設計是一個系統，它將概念、原料跟策略三種元素結合為一個模式，而這個模式能造福各個層面的生態/生活。”
“Permaculture is living a conscious life thinking about where materials come from and where they will go at their end of life and choosing to minimise the impact, do without, or to compensate in another way. A life designed in this way supports a diversity of life and healthier air, water, and soil.
樸門對我來說，是一種有意識的生活；思考生活中各項物品的原物料來源(是否永續)及使用年限到時 (它可被處理方式為何)，從而選擇對地球造成最小負擔的物品；(若物品不夠永續) 是否可完全不使用，或找替代方案。用這樣的設計及思考模式過生活，便可間接支持多元生態、更健康的土地、空氣和水。
The philosophy behind permaculture is one of working with, rather than against, nature; of protracted and thoughtful observation rather than protracted and thoughtless action; of looking at systems in all their functions, rather than asking only one yield of them; and of allowing systems to demonstrate their own evolutions.”
樸門這樣的哲理是一個跟自然共生共存、而非極力對抗的生活設計系統；透過漫長和周詳的觀察，而非欠考慮的行動、透視一個系統的全方位，而非只想著它會帶來什麼產值、同時

另一位創始者 David Holmgren 則說：
” Popularly seen as a ‘cool’ form of organic gardening, permaculture could be better described as a design system for resilient living and land use based on universal ethics and ecological design principles. Although the primary focus of permaculture has been the redesign of gardening, farming, animal husbandry and forestry, the same ethics and principles apply to design of buildings, tools and technology.” 對樸門常見的誤解是 “超酷的有機園藝”，但樸門更確切的解釋為 “打造有韌性生活的一個設計模式，使用樸門倫理和生態設計原則來做土地規劃”。即使這些倫理和原則多用在改造菜園、農場、動物養殖和林務層面，但同準則一樣可應用在建築、工具和科技上。
Applying permaculture ethics and principles in our gardens and homes inevitably leads us towards redesigning our ways of living so as to be more in tune with local surpluses and limits. 當我們在家園和菜園裡應用樸門倫理和原則時，無可避免地會帶領我們重新思考日常生活模式，並對在地能取得的多餘或匱乏資源更了解。
